Brothers in Exile is a play about the complex relationship between Richard Wright, James Baldwin, and Chester Himes in Paris in the 1950s.

"Paris, 28 November 1960. Richard Wright, the most celebrated African American author in the world, dies suddenly at the age of 52. A police inquiry begins that very night. Wright's brothers in exile, James Baldwin and Chester Himes, are questioned about the trio's intense friendship and ferocious rivalry."

 


On February 25th, 2013  the first reading of Jake Lamar's Brothers in Exile was held at the Théâtre du Rond Point in Paris, France.


William Nadylam read the role of Richard Wright, Cyril Guei was James Baldwin, and Alex Descas was Chester Himes... a reader (for the stage directions) and five additional actors brought Brothers in Exile to the stage for the first time.
